Alistair Innes

Having worked with wood for most of his adult life, woodturning was a natural progression for Alistair Innes.

Amongst other artists, Alistair is influenced by the Japanese wood turner Yamabiko, who creates very fine wood art. He is inspired by the characteristics revealed in the wood during the turning process. These appear to reveal flaws in the wood, but are not to be regarded as defects, but the very nature and beauty of the wood itself, making each piece unique. Most of the wood Alistair uses is sourced locally, and he enjoys producing natural edge pieces with bark inclusions.
